Alexander Meliado, age 95, of Highlands, NJ (formerly of New York City).
After his service in the U.S. Navy (WWII), Alex partnered with Sam Donnoli as owners of Al & Sam’s Candy Store in SOHO before relocating to New Jersey where he worked as a maintenance worker for the Navesink House until his retirement.
He was a 50+ year member of American Legion Post 1212, NYC.
Alex was a member of St. Anthony Parish, NYC and later Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Highlands. Alex and his wife Louise could always be found sitting out front of their house ready to wave or chat with passersby.
Alex enjoyed tinkering around with household repairs and was the “go-to” guy when something needed fixing.
Alex most cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are his daughters, Rosanne Rosenberg of Arizona, Suzan Guiney & Louise Titus of NJ; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Alex is predeceased by Louise, his loving wife of 73 years, his parents Vincent and Antonia, sisters Teresa & Rosa and brother Louis.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
