Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Donald Lawson, a long time resident of Sea Bright and Middletown, NJ died after a short illness on May 10, 2020.
He is survived by his brother William Lawson, nephews Glen Lawson, Scott Lawson, Robert Lawson, Greg Lawson, Bill Lawson, Thomas Lawson, Gerald Lawson, James Lawson, and a niece Jean Meier (nee Lawson). He is predeceased by his father William Langelius Lawson, his mother Marie Lawson (nee Aumuller), and his brother Gary Lawson.
Don was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 3, 1939, to William and Marie Lawson. He graduated from New York University with a degree in Education and from Parsons School of Design with a degree in Graphic Design and Advertising.
Don's passion for graphic arts led him to a career in the advertising industry. He worked for CBS in the 1960s and 1970s as a graphic artist and account executive and played an integral role in the development of CBS Sports print and television marketing campaigns for the National Football League (NFL) and Professional Golf Association (PGA). He and his team developed, managed, and promoted CBS movie and sitcom ads for TV Guide and other print media outlets during this time.
In the late 1970's Don moved to the prominent ad agency, Wells, Rich, and Greene. He continued to handle CBS accounts, advanced Proctor & Gamble's 1984 Olympic television and print media ads, and further expanded "I Love NY" ads for the New York State Department of Economic Development.
In retirement, Don enjoyed buying and selling antiques and for over a decade operated the "Lawson Found" booth at the Antique Center of Red Bank. When not manning his stand, he could be found tending to his beloved beagles, Lady, Rhoda, and Sami-Sue and socializing with neighbors in the Shadow Lakes Village in Middletown, his home for the last decade. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A committal service has been postponed at this time. In lieu of flowers and cards, the family requests memorial donations be made in Don's memory to Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724 or online at:
