Obituary of Madelon Helm
Madelon Helm (1944-2024)
Madelon Helm, 80, a special Italian-American grandma of Tom's River, New Jersey lost her battle with heart failure on February 27, 2024.
She was born in Westerly, Rhode Island in 1944 to Carmella Rizzuto and Santo Turano. She was raised by her mother and her adoptive father Herbert Young. Madelon attended nursing school before moving to Virginia where she worked as an emergency room nurse and later as a homemaker. She talked with her hands, cooked killer meatballs, and always needed help reaching the upper cabinets. She loved food, cooking shows, music, puzzles, weiner dogs, and most of all her family.
Madelon was preceded in death by her devoted husband David Helm, brother Steven Young, as well as her parents, step-father, and former son-in-law. She is survived by daughter Amy (Stacie Bradfield) Helm, Annette (Doug Hart) Helm, and Allison Merker; grandchildren Katlyn (fiancee John Alvarez) Helm, Dominic Merker, and Damien Merker; great-grandsons John David, Aiden, Kyler, and Austin Alvarez as well as dear nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, and cousins.
A viewing is set for 7 pm, March 1 and a memorial service, 9:30 am, March 2 at Posten and McGuinley funeral home, followed by a private burial service at Pinelawn cemetery in New York. In lieu of flowers, donations to Monmouth County SPCA or the American Heart Association would be greatly appreciated, or just celebrate her life by cooking good food and sharing it with someone
