The weather is fitting today as we say goodbye to a true force of nature, Helen Marchetti. I had the distinct honor and privilege of working with Helen over the years on too many projects to mention. There isn't a square foot of land in Atlantic Highlands that does not have her handprint on it. Her wit, courageous leadership, character, and candor impacted many of us who are feeling her loss today. They say people enter our lives to leave us a lesson. Helen was no exception.
Decades ago, we were having a difficult conversation that had to be done in person. I owed her as much. After I shared my situation, she looked at me like only Helen could and said, "You are a lousy politician, Tracey, but you are a great councilwoman." Decades later, that remains one of the best compliments I have ever received. Vaya Con Dios Helen, you made a difference in my life because you were in it.
