Florence Hungrecker Obituary
In Loving Memory of Florence Hungrecker
Florence “Flo” Hungrecker passed away September 19, 2026, just after celebrating her 89th birthday last month.
Born in Jersey City on August 21, 1937, to Frank and Mary Longo. Flo was the youngest of two siblings - her sister Yolanda (who she has mentioned as her role model) and brother Anthony.
At 10 years old she moved to Atlantic Highlands and became a lifelong resident of this town that she loved so much. Flo grew up on Ocean Boulevard and spent her adult years on the hills of East Highland, in the home built by her first husband, Robert Flanagan. That home became her lifelong project and labor of love—a place filled with memories, family, and the many chapters of her life.
After graduating Monmouth University she became a dedicated schoolteacher and Teacher of the Year in 1995 as she touched the lives of countless students throughout her 41 year career in the Hazlet Public School District. After retiring she devoted herself to volunteering at Riverview Medical Center.
Flo had a special love for a good library book and treasured her summer days at Ship Ahoy Beach Club. Her and her circle of girlfriends have sat down on the water’s edges in the same exact spot for the last 50 years. If you are one of those ladies, you will remember Courtney practicing her dance recitals for her grandmother and friends all summer long.
Flo was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Agnes Church. She enjoyed frequenting churches across town. Flo took pride in supporting her grandsons, Mac and Jack, at their sporting events at their respective catholic schools. Flo always stayed active and could often be found walking her familiar harbor loop, hiking and skiing in Vermont, or participating in exercise classes at Navesink Fitness.
Survived by her two daughters, Robin and Colleen Flanagan along with three adored grandchildren, Courtney Mac and Jack Taylor.
She will be laid to rest alongside her beloved late husband William Hungrecker, where they will be together once again.
