Elizabeth T. "Betsy" Dillon Obituary

Elizabeth T. Dillon, 86, of Red Bank, NJ, peacefully entered into eternal life on the

evening of Sunday, July 19th, 2026, in the company of her family. Elizabeth (Betsy) was born in Long Branch to parents Elizabeth (Colleran) Thompson and Thomas J.

Thompson of Highlands. She graduated from Highlands Elementary School, Red Bank Catholic High School and Rosemont College (class of 1962), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in education. Elizabeth went on to teach third grade at The Knollwood School in Fair Haven.

While at Rosemont, Betsy met her true love, Thomas J. Dillon, of Albany, NY. Tom was pursuing the five-year Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree at Villanova University and was an NROTC midshipman, soon to become an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Betsy and Tom were married on August 14, 1965.

Betsy and Tom went on to raise a family while moving multiple career-related times

among various New York and New Jersey locations. Betsy raised her children with an

appreciation of kindness, personal and social responsibility, education, art, music, and

the beauty of the environment and of the people and animals that inhabit it.

Throughout her life, Betsy pursued gardening and her own love of art, particularly

painting in oils and watercolors. She studied under local artists and exhibited her work

on several occasions. She admired and retained her mother’s and grandmother's skills in sewing and knitting, making beautiful clothing for her children and grandchildren. She played the piano beautifully, as well, accompanying her children’s school performances and playing at home – on holidays and everyday occasions. Throughout her life, she remained an avid supporter of Rosemont College, which she cherished.

Betsy is predeceased by her brother, Thomas C. Thompson, and is survived by her

three children: Kathleen Dillon McGovern and her husband Christopher McGovern, of

Philadelphia; Thomas C. Dillon and his wife Susan Stoker Dillon of Palm Beach

Gardens; Nancy Dillon and her partner Kenneth Toglia of Little Silver. She is also

survived by her two grandchildren, Emily Taylor Dillon and Ryan Thomas Dillon.
