Leonardo DePinto Obituary

Leonardo DePinto, 68, of Leonardo, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on April 30. Born in Jersey City, the youngest of four children, he grew up in Hoboken, attended St. Francis Grammar School, St. Peters Prep High School, and graduated from NJIT with a degree in civil engineering. He was employed by Union Paving and Construction Co. of Mountainside, as their chief estimator.

Len led a very full life and stayed active in the alumni club of St. Peter's Prep as well as a Trustee. He was a past member of UNICO. He was the President of the Society Madonna Dei Martiri in Hoboken of which he was an active member for over a quarter of a century. He was instrumental in launching their scholarship program, helping Italian American students pursue greater educational opportunities. He was a sitting Senior Steward and Master Mason of the Free Masons, Navesink Lodge No. 9.

Len enjoyed many years of traveling with his wife, Carol, having made many trips abroad visiting family in Italy. He was an avid fan of the New Jersey Devils and New York Yankees. King of the "Dad Jokes", he took great delight in texting them or his nieces daily. The worse they were, the more delight he derived in sending them. As part of a large close-knit family, Len was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed his assistance or expertise. No matter what had to be done, he always managed to "come up with a plan to fix it." There was no shortage of love for Len in our family. His job, made it necessary for him to travel to many different destinations and, in doing so, he made new friends wherever he went. It didn't matter what station of life you came from; he was your friend.

He is predeceased by his parents, Vincenzo and Anna DePinto, his brother, Aldo, his brothers-in- law James Emmer and Donald Zampella, and his Stepson Robert Woodward and wife Brandi.

He is survived by his wife Carol, of 17 years, his sisters Agatha Emmer, Octavia Zampella, and sister-in-law Camille; his children Dr. Austen LaRocca (Anthony), Lt. Col. Vincent DePinto (Kait), Major Kevin DePinto (Nicole); his grandchildren Xavier LaRocca, Sophia, William, Nicholas, Abigail and Sadie DePinto; his step children Peter and Carol Ann DeNicola, John, Ann, Jason and Jodie Woodward; his step grandchildren Peter and Jacob DeNicola, Christopher, Taylor, John, Robert, Autumn, Logan and Maddox Woodward. He was a much-loved uncle to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
