With heavy hearts, we sadly share that our beloved Leann “Lee” Florence Coleman, 61, of Highlands NJ, passed peacefully in her sleep March 6, 2026. 

Leann was born at Patterson Army Hospital, Fort Monmouth NJ, on September 13, 1964 to new and proud parents, Phillip Coleman from Texas and Diane Gauthier Coleman of Highlands. A lifelong resident in the little town she adored, Leann grew up on the hill near the Twin Lights with her two little sisters, countless pets (including her favorite dog, Spooky), and her parents who made the happiest childhood memories…fun road trips, endless playing outside, magical Christmases, and summers at “Gram’s Beach” with our big family swimming, seining, and having the best 4th of July celebrations ever. She loved the sleepovers at Grandma Florence’s which, she would always laughingly recall, included a fun car ride 70s-style: standing on the front bench seat seatbelt-less between Gram and Pop, to places like KMart, Batsto Village or the Englishtown Auction.

Leann attended Highlands Elementary School and graduated from Henry Hudson Regional Class of 1982, where she loved and excelled in art, with her favorite teacher Mrs. Reed, and played softball. She was a waitress in town at Yeung’s Chinese Restaurant, Sink Oar Swim and Branin’s Wharf. In 1988, she gave birth to the light of her life, her son Joey. 

Leann was artistic, creative, funny, thoughtful and fiercely loved her family. She also had to be brave and strong, surviving breast cancer and dealing daily with many health issues. She was a movie connoisseur who couldn’t wait to talk (your ear off) about her latest watch. She was so proud of her son and was her nieces’ and nephews’ greatest fan. 

Leann will be missed every single day, especially at the family get-togethers she loved where she was naturally the life of the party…making jokes, telling stories & reminiscing, or reading touching little poems she wrote for the occasion.

Leann is survived by her son, Joseph Rogers; parents, Phillip and Diane Coleman; sisters, Diana Coleman-Grover and Jennifer Coleman; brother-in-law, Christopher Grover; nieces and nephews, True, River, Sealth and Lilakoi Grover and many aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Taking time to peacefully process, grieve and reflect, a celebration of Leann’s life with us will be held at a later date.
