Edward John Gross Jr. Obituary

Edward John Gross, Jr. age 76 passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at his home in Leonardo, NJ.


Edward was born on April 21, 1949 in Long Branch, NJ.  He was the third of four children born to Edward John Gross, Sr. and Ann (Jankovsky) Gross.  He grew up in Hazlet, and attended the Hazlet schools, graduating in 1967 from Raritan High School.  After his marriage he moved to Atlantic Highlands before settling in Leonardo. 


Ed was an avid lover of sports, and a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees and the Philadelphia Eagles.  He played recreational baseball and softball in several community leagues.  One of his favorite intramural groups was “The Turkeys” made up of a close knit group of colleagues from Brookdale Community College where he worked for over 40years in the Facilities Department and as the campus locksmith. While employed at Brookdale, Ed also earned an A.A. in Broadcasting in 1976. 


He served his community through volunteering in Community Fire Company, Station 4 in Leonardo.  


Edward was predeceased by his parents, Edward John Gross, Sr. and Ann Gross.  He was also predeceased by his sister Cecelia Vetra and her husband, Robert D. Vetra, as well as his nephew, Jason Edward Vetra.  


Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Beverlee Holcombe Gross, his daughter Lauren Gross, his son, Edward John Gross III and his wife Stefanie along with his three grandsons, William, Colton and Richard.  He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen Gross of Farmington, NM and Victoria Gross-DeVita and her husband Frank of Tinton Falls, NJ.  He was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends who will always hold him dearly in their hearts.   He also leaves behind his faithful dog Mia who was a constant companion.  


His viewing and prayer service will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 3-6 pm at the Posten-McGinley Funeral home, 59 East Lincoln Avenue, Atlantic Highlands, NJ who have been entrusted with his arrangements.
