Edna May “Mickie” Bennett
October 20, 1929 – July 24, 2025
Edna May Mickie” Bennett was born on October 20,1929 in Montclair Community Hospital to Edgar H and Edna May Blair Wagner. Mickie lived her early years in East Orange NJ and spent many summers in Union Beach. She was a 1947 graduate of Clifford J Scott High School in East Orange. Eventually she moved full-time to Union Beach, and soon after met the love of her life, James Albert Bennett. They married on October 7, 1950, and moved to Leonardo, where she lived for the next 70 years.
Mickie worked for Prudential insurance Company in Newark until 1953 leaving to start her family, she became a mother and homemaker for the next 25 years until the death of her beloved James in 1978. In 1980 she started a new career as an upholstery machine operator for Peary Upholstery in Atlantic Highlands for the next 28 years, retiring in 2008 at the age of 79.
Mickie’s final years were spent at Bayside Manor in Keansburg. She loved spending time with her family, genuinely wanting and caring for each and every one of her nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her grand puppies.
She is survived by her children, James Jr (Cindy) and John (Roseanne), her grandchildren Kelly O’Herron (Nick), Michael, John Jr. (Briana), and Daniel, her great grandchildren, Aiden, Gracelyn, Conner, Maddie, and Brinley O’Herron.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Bayside for the wonderful care and support of our mom in her final years.
